Right now, I'm knitting ankle socks using Serenity Sock Weight Yarn (50% superwash wool/25% Bamboo/25% Nylon). The color is aquamarine art. 50grams for each sock.

Size 2 DPN

I've finished one sock and am working on the foot of the 2nd sock. The pattern is simple but a little tight. I think a few more stitches would have made the socks a bit looser but since it's my first time with this pattern, I stuck to it diligently.

The next pair of socks I'll be knitting will also be an ankle sock, using

Pattons Stretch socks. I've never used such stretchy yarn and I hope it won't ladder. I'm not sure how to pull the stitches tightly if they give so much? I guess I shall see soon.

I'll post pictures when I am finished with the aquamarine pair.

I do the cuff down type of knitting, Florence. Never done the toe up. What are the advantages?

Wow! Thanks everyone! The washing in cold sounds like a great idea. I'll try that. I have no problem air drying socks - do that with a few others.

Florence, yes, I think I do need to use larger needles on the foot. It's such a guessing game because you want the sock to be durable and not wear out so I usually use the smallest needles possible to get tight weave. However, that can make for a TIGHT fitting sock. So, I'll have to to try adjusting my needle size. Thanks!

I love to knit socks. I think it's my adiction in knitting. I have lot's & lot's of sock yarn stash. I teach toe up sock class at my LYS. Right now I'm working on a pair with Toasty toes sock yarn. It's so great to work with and they feel so good on the feet.

You might try using a larger needle for the foot of the sock. I have to do that for some yarns.

If you use cold water, you can wash in machine, but air dry.

I made some wonderful socks witht he stretchy yarn from Knit picks. I love them. They spontaneously made a little ruffle at the top. No laddering.

I'll bet that a gentle cycle would be fine because the fibre is 25% nylon.

I'm wondering if these absolutely HAVE to be hand washed or if washing them on the gentle cycle will be sufficient? I have no problem with air drying but hand washing is not something I will do. I usually am better at reading the washing instructions but just didn't think that anyone these days would hand wash socks!
