Hello Everyone!

Can anyone tell me what makes those harmony double pointed needles from knitpics to special? Are they worth getting? I owe so many pairs of double pointed knitting needles in a wide-range of sizes -- some are bamboo and some in aluminum. What is a magic loop?

I love the harmony needles from Knitpicks! I bought the set of circular needles that comes in the clear case. I bought them because I knit on planes and if you drop circs #1 you don't unravel the entire row and #2 they won't roll under a seat where they can be lost forever! They are just so smooth for wood needles. I really like them. I like the Addie Turbo as well. It is all preference but I must say that you don't want to use a really slippery soft yarn with metal needles because it tends to be more uncontrollable. You want a bit of friction with the woods on a soft yarn so it does make a difference what type of yarn you use. :-)

Magic loop is a method where you use a long circular needle to knit in the round. Do you do a lot of knitting in the round without sewing? It is great for that type of knitting and you can knit tiny tubes with the long needles by "bending" them and working the knitting that way. There is a video in the video tutorials to the right if you want to watch it done.

The harmony needles are lovely. They are harmony wood so they have gorgeous colors. As for them being "better" than you bamboo or metal needles, that is all about personal preference. I know a lot of knitters who LOVE metal (especially the Addi Turbo needles) and I know some who even prefer plastic. We all knit differently. I personal prefer a wooden needle for garments and hats but a metal needle for toys. I knit them extra tight so the stuffing doesn't show and I have less trouble knitting tightly on metal needles!
