Hi, Judy! There a bunch of different ways to do buttonholes. Two common methods are the "One Row Buttonhole" and the "Eyelet Buttonhole". The benefit of the One Row Buttonhole is that you can make it ANY size based on the size of your buttons. This is great when you have GIANT buttons and baby yarn. The advantage of the Eyelet Buttonhole is that it is quick and dirty. I prefer to buy my buttons AFTER doing an Eyelet Buttonhole because the holes are only a certain size. Here are some videos that make it really easy to see:

Have fun!

Knit or crochet? THIS gal seems to specialize in cartoon characters (she has some Peanuts!) but her patterns are all crochet.
