At the beginning of this year my friend Monika invited me to join a group on Ravelry called 10 Shawls in 2010. The goal, obviously, is to knit 10 shawls during the course of the year. What a cinch, I thought to myself. Anyone can knit 10 shawls in 12 months, right?
To say the least, it's been a challenge. I still have to go to work every day, maintain the house, cook for and clean up after a teenager (and a cat!), and I teach knitting (for free) on Saturdays at my local library, I knit for charity and for holidays, birthdays and for almost anyone who asks for something. Still, 10 shawls in 10 months - no problem.
One of my most recent accomplishments was the Fountain Pen Shawl (Interweave Knits, Spring 2009). A very lovely shawl with an easy to remember set of repeats. I made it with Misti Alpaca laceweight in a colorway that looked like a dark plum color, but ended up a lovely lilac. It's big and soft and will make a wonderful neck warmer under my boring black winter coat.

If you want to knit with incredibly soft lace weight yarn that is not heavy but provides warmth, you should consider some laceweight yarn, and the softest I've used so far is Misti Alpaca laceweight. Like butter!
