My kids are pretty close in age but are opposite genders. As I am planning a button up vest for my son, it occurs to me that my daughter will wear it two years later. SO, I'm going to put buttonholes on BOTH sides of the the button bands. This way I can sew them on one side now and MOVE them for her later! Maybe I'll crochet a small rose decoration and add it too...VIOLA...a whole new sweater in an afternoon!

Maybe all the years of unisex clothes are coming to and end!

My husband does! He is obsessive about this! For girl's clothing, buttons are on the left side :)

I always notice when buttoning my OWN shirts if they aren't on the right side but I never noticed on other people's clothing until I met my husband. (This is the same man who will not wear socks that don't match his slacks...so take it with a grain of salt!)

I can't remember which side is which for buttons. Do people really notice?

Especially with handknits, I love to see them used again and again! I'm glad you like the button idea! I figure I just sew together one set of holes when I sew the buttons on. It will make it very easy to make the swap!

What a great idea. I have a granddaughter and a grandson that are about 2 years apart and that would be a great way to make all the work of making a sweater stretch out for more use. I find they grow out of things so quickly that their sweaters are barely used before they grow out of them.

I'm thinking of knitting a vest for my son in purple. It is nice heather purple. Boys wear purple, right? I figure It is a matter of finding the right shirt to wear underneath.
