I'm trying to find a cape, shawl pattern, knit or crochet, that has slits to stick your hands out of. I'm thinking this might be more of a vintage type pattern since I haven't seen this type of, cape, shawl in years. I wanted to make one for my moms 80th birthday. This would be an easier garment for her to wear since she could stick her hands out of the slits to do whatever she needs to do as opposed to sticking them out the bottom. Does anyone have any ideas.........

I finally visted a little yarn shop not too far away from my new apartment. I was puzzled as I stepped in the door, as I was presented with many, MANY, cones of fiber on the shelves. This store is called Yarnia, a DIY yarn store. Unfortunately, online I think they only sell their premade cones. Their website:
http://yarniapdx.com/index.htmlI stuck around for a while examining my choices, and I figured this place was going to end up being expensi…

Hello all! I'm in my later 50's (really??) and have been married for 27 years to the best guy in the world. I'm disabled and no longer able to work as a registered nurse, which I did for 35 years. I'm pretty much confined to home and crochet and knit prayer shawls and lapghans for my church. I'm a one person pray shawl ministry! I'm thinking of starting a group prayer shawl ministry at my church.
I taught myself how to crochet the summer I was 12 and babysitting a lot. That is my main craft. I'm…

I remember the short ugly scarf I made when I first learned to knit. It wasn't my best work but it was one of my proudest! The experience taught me that right after I learned to knit and purl, I needed to learn how to make corrections as I go.
My first few experiences with errors, it always seemed better to rip an item out and start over than figure out how to fix what I'd managed to screw up. That was until I started making anything bigger than a washcloth. With a little time and a WHOLE LOT o…

I recently discovered Tunisian Crochet, and love it. It is a cross between knitting and crocheting and has many versatile stitches to afford multiple styles of fabric. I am currently teaching myself how to use this technique by making a prayer shawl for my (ex) husband. He is going through chemo and needs a warm wrap. I love to crochet, but it is often too loose a stitch to offer warmth. The Tunisian crochet grants a much closer stitch and the project is moving along quickly.

We were taught knitting and crocheting and even needle point when we were young mostly when we were ill to keep us in our beds to get well, not to pass on the germs and to pretty much keep us quiet, especially on lo…
