"For me it depends - sometimes I find the pattern first (in a magazine or book), then I buy the yarn. Of course while I am shopping for that yarn I usually find yarn I really want to knit with that I don't have a pattern for."

"I have a couple of Sock books - I really like Knitted Comfort for the Sole because it has some interesting patterns and ideas, but I also have Learn to Knit Socks. Both of which I got at Joann's Ect. The books are for dpn needles only."

"I agree whole heartedly. I am a self-taught knitter and would have been lost without the Reader's Digest book. It gives me the confidence to try harder patterns because I know I have a resource that will explain things."

"My favorite knitting book would have to the Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Needlework. It was copy writed in 1979, but it has a lot of great basic info and a ton of different classic stitches. Some of the patterns are, of course, dated but…"

I am a stay - at - home mother of 2. I knit all the time when I am not playing World of Warcraft. I have been knitting for 4 years and learned it to keep my hands busy while I quit smoking - I traded on addiction for another it seems!

I love socks because they are quick, baby items, afghans - it all depends on the pattern or the yarn as to what I make.
