"If you have concerns about the 100% alapca, go for an alpaca/merino blend. The merino has memory and will "bounce" back. It makes it ideal for things like hats that need to fit well without washing everytime you use them!"

"I have a sweater made of 100 % alpaca yarn. Made in Peru. It doesn't seem to stretch too much, but I don't know how it was spun or what the ply is. I have alpaca to spin but it seems to stretch as I try it. Need to find a new technique."

"Beautiful shawls that have wonderful drape are perfect for 100% alpaca esp baby alpaca, same with drapey scarves, etc...but I have made a sweater with 100% alpaca that I spun and I noticed as I knit it "growing and growing". The sweater…"

Hi Angie, Just wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. My husband and I are going up to visit my son's family, they live about two hours from us. I'll take my knitting along, probably the "pattern vest" from Cast On magazine, the one that I am teaching to the intermediate knitting class. We only have one more class before the semester ends, but I promised the group that we will meet at my house until all of them have finished their vests. The next class will be learning to knit socks. Not quite as complicated as the vest.
Take, LOL Knitwit, Mary

Nice to have you answer my note. Your questions are very good and certainly ones that I am asked all the time by my students in my classes. You are right to learn some finishing techniques because they can make a garment look "handmade" or "homemade". First, here are my suggestions for getting the best information possible on this subject. Invest $24.95 in Nancie Wiseman's book, "The Knitter's Book of Finishing Techniques". I have the book and would not be without it. It is not large, can be carried easily in your knitting bag and is spiral bound. Wiseman has great information and illustrations. I used her book her constantly when I was doing TKGA's Level One Master Knitters Program. I could take up a lot of space writing comments about finishing techniques but it is better if you have something to refer to when the need arises. I live in Livermore, Ca but was born in Michigan. Although it has been a long time since I lived there, you don't forget the winters. Livermore is in the East Bay, about forty miles East of San Francisco and it is raining at the moment. Hope this helps and let me know how you like Wiseman's book. Knitwit, Mary : )
