do you knit english or continental? what hand do you hold your working yarn in?

Can u believe I don't know? I think continental....I hold my yarn in my left hand & my stitches go from needle in left hand to one on right hand. I hope that helps! I don't throw my yarn....I more or less am picking it & have tension much like I do when I crochet because it's most comfortable. I've knitted for several years w/o instruction from anyone just getting what I can from tv shows like "knit one, purl 2" and "knitty gritty". I mostly knit scarves, prayer shawls, & dishclothes. I have a machine, but that's another thing entirely!

I think continental....have had someone watch me who knits English & she threw her hands up @ me! I hold my yarn in my left hand....she told me I knit leftie since my knitting goes from left needle to right as I knit....I'm really new @ this, so I'm confused! I used to throw my yarn, but saw someone holding theirs "picking" more like when u crochet (holding yarn). I do have problems w/purling as well. I want to go further w/my knitting, but am lost when I get a pattern because directions seem backwards! I mostly have done scarves, dishcloths, & prayer shawls w/simple patterns or just straight knit stitches

ok, after watching the video on continental knitting, i DO knit continental, & whoever thinks i knit leftie is nuts....i knit just like the lady in the video!
