Here is a suggestion for all those knitters who want to learn to knit socks. First, find a simple pattern, like a baby sock, one without a lot of patterns in it, and knit it. As you go through the pattern you will swear that the pattern is wrong, but believe me, just do what it says and you will end up with a cute little baby sock. Secondly, find some copies of "Cast On" magazine, the ones where Arenda Holladay has written her articles on sock construction. She is a guru when it comes to socks. Ravelry.com has a group that is doing the TKGA Master Knitting classes, that is where you will find Arenda and her advise. If you sign up for the TKGA classes you will be given a number which will allow you to go to all of the articles that Arenda has written. Finally, I believe I have a baby sock patten if anyone needs it. However, if you Google it you can probably get one faster. Hope this helps. Mary

I would like to add: Don't let the number of needles intimidate you either. You are always only knitting with just 2 needles, the rest are just hanging out.
Good point Robyn. Also, for those who want to try knitting socks, when you come to the join, the place where you need to change to another needle, knit the first stitch on the new needle and put your left hand needle into the second stitch. This is point at which you give the yarn a good "tug" to close any gap that would otherwise appear. If you do not do this, you could very easily end up with holes or ladders in your work. thanks fir info..
Another really good source is a book called Socks Soar on 2 Circular Needles. It is very clear, has simple patterns and there are no double points. Having small children when I was learning, taught me that double points are too easily removed from you knitting. Circulars don't readily come out. You can toss your project in your purse without having to worry about point protectors coming off and needles falling out our your project.
