As the weather warms up, I think about the half knit wool vest that I am not going to knit until the weather cools again. I love knitting toys when the weather is warm because they are so small that I don't have a PILE of knitting in my lap (especially warm when it's wool!)

What other projects do you guys knit when it starts to get hot?

I agree about the toys- I am working my way through an amigurumi booklet this summer! I have a huge bag of red heart, in tons of colors. Its like a big box of crayons!
Cute! I keep even the smallest scraps of acrylic from left over projects. You never know when you need a scrap of blue for eyes or a few yards for a scarf!
I knit mittens....small enough to not burden me down with lots of wool and I add them to my winter gifts and to the schools.

I also knit washcloths/dishcloths and other cotton yarn projects: baby stuff ie: soakers, cotton sweaters....
Stocking up on holiday gifts like mittens is a great idea too! I have a big family and that could keep me busy all SUMMER!
it is also great using extra yarn for this. I have made a lot of stripes (ha)
Do you have a good pattern for soakers that you could share with me?
of course....when I get home I will post it to you here.
Sorry for taking to so long, we had illness in the family. Google soaker knit patterns and you should come up with quite a few patterns.
This may sound like an ignorant question, but what are soakers? I am always looking for new projects.

I look forward to hearing!
Hey Linda,
Soakers are those "delecates" that are made to cover baby diapers. Who'd have thunk it, right? I have to honestly admit that I have never made them, but they are cute, especially for summer, made from cotton, with a matching top. There are a few patterns on line. Hope this helps!

I have used soakers to go over cloth diapers especially when the babies had rashes.

It allows the skin to breath instead of being held in by disposable diapers or rubber pants which both hinder the skin from healing from irritation and burning.

You can use any organic cotton or any real fiber (yarn). If you knit with 2 strands of yarn most likely there will be less chance of leakage.

Hope this helps.
Re mittens - when my sons were in school Id make a hat, scarf and about half a dozen mittens for each of them at the beginning of the year, all in the same color. The pattern fit on either hand. If one got misplaced there would always be a spare! When we got down to two mittens Id make a couple more.
