Pattern Questions

I downloaded From My Heart double knitted scarf pattern. I never did this but have learned to do the double knitting. What I can't do is the actual heart pattern. When I get to the part where I have to follow the chart, I end up with too many color change stitches on the first heart. Can you recommend a web site or book where I can get help on patterns and not just the double knitting? Thank you for your time. Carole
