Please call TSA (Transportation Security Administration). They are very helpful and nice. They govern what can and can not be taken on airplanes. I called them in March about this subject. I was told that scissors 4" or less with a blunt nose is fine. NO metal, use plastic or bamboo hooks. Knitting needles are preferred if they are circular-14" or less. I fulfilled their requirements and had no problems getting through security. Also, I had many tools with me. They suggested that I put cork on the ends of sharp objects and separate items in clear baggies. I included a list of supplies needed for my class with all the information in a binder on top of my luggage. No problems. TSA 1-866-289-9673.
