Hello to all!

My name is Margie and I'm from Alvin, TX. I'm a novice knitter (2 yrs) but love to try anything atleast once. I'm self taught AND left handed! So you can imagine reading patterns in reverse??!! SSK's are on the wrong side, K2Tog same thing.... Oh, and don't forget the dreaded twisted stitches. I was wondering why my socks kept spiraling! Eh', live and learn to love the frog stitch, LOL.

Glad to have found this sight and look forward to "meeting" everyone.

Hi, Margie,

I'm Melissa and I've been knitting for about 4 years. I love knitting. I knit in spurts but mostly just because it is hard to find time with small children. I knit fast so when I start something, I finish it quickly as long as I'm still interested. I have to admit to having some UFO's because the projects just weren't fun anymore. Someday I will revisit them, or frog them for yarn!

I had never given any thought to the difficulties of knitting left handed! Thank you so much for posting that. It is such an interesting thing to think about. My husband is left handed and now I am tempted to make him learn to knit just so I can watch him do it!
Hi Melissa,

I'll tell ya, going by the knitting books will drive any lefty to tears. I know I'm in my "right" mind but please! Some of these books say to just do it right handed OR sit in front of a mirror. Like that's going to help LOL I can see me now with book and tools in hand, "Honey, where ya goin?" oh I'm just heading to the bathroom to sit in the sink and knit! :oD
Sit in front of a mirror huh? That doesn't SOUND like it works. I'm glad that you have managed to make it work for you. Knit and crochet should be something that ANYONE can do. We will have to keep asking and eventually someone will listen and you will get a left handed knitting book!
Mirror image works when it comes to crochet, atleast for me back in the day. I'd sit in front of my mother and watch how the hook went in and out and I followed suit. But THEN, I had a right handed daughter! righty teaching lefty teaching righty. It's a wonder my daughter can manage a hook at all LOL

I bought "Knitting for Dummies". Gotta love the Dummies series. And all the You Tube videos out there help alot. Googled left handed knitting and got loads of links too.

Left handed knitting is possible, just gotta rethink some of the twists n turns.
too bad there aren't left handed knitting needles. lol !!! I can imagine the frustration at times trying to knit left handed. keep us posted.
I have a left handed screw driver! Right now I'm working on the Maiden Hair Fern sock pattern. The picture has a pic of the sock and the pattern wraps/twists to the right. On my sock, just the opposite. Once I have 1 finished I'll post a pic and the pattern. You can see for yourself LOL
Wow!!! Left handed knitting!!! That sounds hard to do. I couldn't do it!!! Oh, I'm Rachel. I live in Overland Park KS & have been knitting for about 4 years. I love to do it, but sometimes the pattern is so complex (to me) that I can't pick it up unless I can sit there for a couple hours to work on it. Then there are the projects that I can do on the go...smaller & easier. But still, I don't think I can do them left handed.

I'm wondering if you google "left handed knitting patterns" if you'd find anything...hmmm.
Hiya Rachel,

It's not hard to do, just more thinking involved. I read and reread the pattern, make little notes in the margins. Most knitting is done clockwise. Not me, I go counterclockwise. That's where the tilt of the decreases gets wonky. The Maiden Hair Fern sock is proof of that.

I'm using a 600 yard hank of hand painted wool in lace/fingering weight. The color way is Dragonfly. I can't wait to finish it. Sleep is such a waste of time when I can be knitting LOL
I hear ya. I think sleep is a waist of time too, when I have a blanky to knit for my unborne grandchild. LOL I'll take some pics soon & get them posted up so everyone can see the pattern.
Hi Margie Merry Meet, I'm a novice knitter also 3 years, cannot knit a sock for my life. I am however a seasoned crocheter,36 years. My grandmother taught me when I was 13,and I haven't stopped yet. I to am new to this group (a few days) , and to boot I'm using a computer for the first time in my life. I feel over whelmed to say the least. I thought I'd make some friends first, then I would learn how to interact in the computer world. I'm hoping to find helpful tips and maybe even pattern ideas from the other needle workers,on this site. I'd like to be friends if you'd like to. Happy Knitting & Blessed Be
Greetings Kathy!

I've crocheted since I was 5, that's about 40 years. OMD ;o) I'm Happy to see another one us in the group. Running a computer is probably easier then fanciful knitting, most of the time it's just point and click.
I'll be more then happy to send you to some really cool freebie web sites for knitting and crochet patterns. I have about 15 years worth!

Many a wonderous Blessings to You

P.S. I'd welcome a new internet friend...
Merry meet?? Would you happen to be a Pagan Knitter????
