I've been slowly collecting knitting books over the past few years and wondered if you guys have any that you just love. I have a few technique books, a bunch of small pattern books and PILES of baby knitting books. I'm going to be so sad when my youngest outgrows "baby" sizes!
What is your must have knitting book? The one book that you would take if you had to fit your worldly goods in a suitcase?

I think mine would be Last Minute Knitted Gifts. I love everything about it from the small projects to the beautiful photography.

Mine would have to be The Ultimate Sourcebook of Knitting & Crochet Stitches by reader's digest. It has 100's of different stitches plus instuctions. I just love it.
I think that so far my favorite would be the 24 hour Crochet projects. Its great for inspirations of ideas and has basics like dollies to hats and sweaters.
I've decided to add to my list the book "Itty Bitty Toys." the projects are so cute and I LOVE knitting toys. I love that they make great gifts from kids that they don't outgrow and I don't have to worry they won't fit!
Knitting Beyond the Edge. It's a great book.
I just purchased the Knitters Handbook by Reader's Digest. Excellent book on Knitting techniques. Vogue Knitting, the Ultimate knitting book is my knitting bible and Knit one, Felt Too is one I keep coming back too, time and again for gifts for my family. I love felting. I would take the Knit One, Felt Too because of my love of felting knitted projects. They are the ultimate in quick knits. Knitted on larger size 13 needles and with double strands of worsted weight wool they work up quickly and any sizing differences can be worked out in the felting process. And this book is just the bomb for gift ideas for Men, Women, boys and girls and babies. I can't let my sisters look at it because they are always wanting me to make things for them out of it. lol
Nicky Epstein books the best... And Debbie Bliss very well written patterns.....
I don't have any Nicky Epstein books but I do have a few Debbie Bliss. Mostly her baby knitting books. I think I also have a collection for Stella yarn somewhere. She does a magazine now but I've noticed that many of the patterns are reprint from the pattern books.
I have everyone of Nicky's books her books are truly a must have.. I have been knitting for 50 years. My first book was her embellishment book and it has been all uphill for the past 25 years. If you are looking for anything special let me know and I would love to give you a heads up.
I stopped buying every book that Looked good. I started evaluating the books that I used the most (knitting on the edge & Beyond the Edge) plus a few one skein books. I have found that I can buy or swap patterns for just about everything I want and the books are not taking over my room. The Web has become my best resource.
Melissa,
I just purchased a new book: Prayer Shawl Companion by Janet Bristow and Victoria Cold-Galo. It has 38 knitted patters for shawls (and a couple of lap robes thrown in for good measure) Also has stories to go with each pattern, background of the Shawl Ministry movement, and lots of prayers. This book is destined to be one of my favourites! I'd like to see one that is all crocheting also.
I also have a book of baby blankets, one with a baby holding a blue blanket on the cover. I've had this book for longer than I'm willing to even think about, and still use it!! One church I went to had a visitation committee for home visits to new moms. I made over 30 little blankets from this book for the women to give to the babies and moms they went to visit. A very heartwarming experience.
sorry to be so long winded....
Not long winded at all! Thank you for sharing! This is exactly the kind of information that helps me decide what kind of books become favorites and which I don't know if I will ever use passed the initial pretty photography. I have to admit that I'm sometimes a sucker for pretty photography.
THAT REALLY THOUGHTFUL...
