Welcome to the first KnitIdeas knitalong!

We will be knitting HATS for the month of October. I encourage each of you to choose your favorite hat pattern or one that you have been eyeing but I am supplying two hats for suggestions. One is great for a beginning knitters and the other includes intarsia for those who are more advanced.

For now, all you have to do is choose your pattern and pick out your yarn and needles. We will begin Thursday, October 1st, and you can start your project anytime afterwards. The knitalong will close on October 31st.

The following patterns are a great place to start but AGAIN, I encourage you to knit any pattern of your choosing. The purpose of this knitalong is to get to know one another. If you choose not to knit a hat, JOIN US ANYWAY! If you beginners need a hat that is knit flat and seamed together, let me know! HATS:

I am going to knit a Harry Potter inspired hat for my daughter's Halloween costume. I'm using cranberry and gold yarn from my stash! I'm a super tight knitter so I am going up to size 9 needles but I still need to swatch and make sure that my gauge will work. I can't wait to see what the rest of you are knitting!
Hi Melissa,
I dont know what hat I will be doing yet, but I am realy looking forward to doing it with you all. I am going to check out your patterns. Talk Soon Freda.
My son and daughter in law are Bruins fans so I think I'm going to make 2 simple matching hats in Bruins colors for them to wear to the games to show their support... will buy the yarn this weekend,
Well, I went out and bought the yarn today and I'm psyched to start this smaller, more portable project. The afghan is nice to work on at night -- it keeps me toasty and warm as I knit it. But, its also nice to have a small project you can tote around with you for in between times during the day when you can fit in 15-20 minutes.
15 to 20 minutes at a time is my kinda project! I have my had cast on but haven't decided how the stripe pattern should look so I am knitting SLOWLY while I try to picture it in my head :) I hope everyone's projects are coming along! I'll take a progress photo when I actually have some to show!
I'm trying to "create" the pattern as I go, so I had about 4 false-starts, but I think I finally have it right, and did about 3/4 of the first hat over the weekend. Mine has stripes too, designed after a Bruins jersey.
Anyone have tips or resources on jogless joins? I've decided that I"m going to master it as part of my knit along. THe stripes just don't look right with the "steps".
Oooo I have been wanting to knit a hat for this winter. It seems to be here already, burrr! Not sure which one though. Was hoping for something slouchy, will have to look and get back to you.
Great! We can always use more knitters knitting along! We are knitting hats all month! I'm still working on jogless join for mine. I'm knitting a halloween scarf in the inbetween time so I'll have to finish it all by the end of the month! let us know which hat you choose. I love slouchy hats but haven't figure out how to wear one so I haven't knit one yet!
I finished the "tie" for my daughter's Halloween costume so now I am in the zone to figure out this jogless stripe technique and finish my hat. I'll have a picture up soon of the scarf and I think I can get the hat done this week! I hope you guys are doing well on your projects and are having tons of knitting fun!
My goal was to knit 2 matching hats for my son and daughter in law in the Boston Bruins' color. I've got the first one done, and now will be starting on the second one... ran into a few issues with the first one, so the second one should go a little smoother. Will post pictures when both are done.
Now that I have a good computer and can log on here again, I have just started a hat last night!!! And today, I see this post! How amazing is that?!? Anyway, I am knitting a baby hat out of some soft purple yarn for my grand daughter to be. She is due to arrive February 3, 2010 and will be my first grandchild. I am excited to be part of this knitalong!!! I'll post pics after it's finished. I wish I would have seen this sooner...but I'll join in anyway.
